After celebrating the ceremony at City Park Rose Garden, everyone made their way to The Oxford Hotel’s Grand Ballroom for the celebration. Affinity for Music was there to help make the night wonderful.

Gathering outside the ballroom for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, guests were greeted by toe-tapping tunes from Etta James and Dean Martin. After guests made their way into the beautifully lit ballroom, Mike and Cindy received a formal introduction, and were met with cheers and applause from their happy family and friends.

After dinner, the couple made their way to the cake table as Plain White T’s “1, 2, 3, 4” played in the background. For their first dance, Mike and Cindy chose the classic “Our Love is Here to Stay” by Ella Fitzgerald.

The dance floor was open and the celebration continued into the night. Mike and Cindy’s personal selections like Etta James’ “A Sunday Kind of Love” and Ben Harper’s Happy Everafter in Your Eyes” fit in perfectly at The Oxford Hotel’s sophisticated downtown setting.

One dedication for the bride’s brother, Bill, had an especially profound effect. “Wedding Bell Blues” by the 5th Dimension has a chorus that repeats, “Come on and marry me Bill!” We just recently found out, Bill is engaged!

As the party came to a close, everyone shared a final dance to “Real Love” by John Lennon. Some made their way to the next destination for martinis, while others retired to their hotel room for the night. Set on the south fringe of the Denver metro area, this unique museum was the setting for this couple’s wedding day which had a military flair.

The ceremony, set in The Wildlife Experience’s courtyard, was arranged in front of a fountain lined with flagstone and indigenous trees. We amplified the music provided by an instrumental quartet, and the sound easily filled the courtyard, accenting the rushing water in the background.

When Chip and Joslynn were officially announced, soldiers rose to their feet and drew their swords. They lined the aisle and raised their swords into a sword arch as the couple receded down the aisle. Images provided by Bowers Photographics.

When the guests were welcomed into the Great Hall, they were greeted by a mix of jazzy standards and contemporary hits to keep all the guests’ toes tapping. The tempo was briefly kicked up a notch to welcome in the wedding party, followed by the bride and groom. Motley Cruë’s “Kick Start My Heart” set an electric pulse and energized the crowd.

When it came to cutting the cake, First Lieutenant Chip took the job seriously. He drew his sword, which was secretly concealed under the cake table, and both bride and groom took the hilt to slice their piece together.

Chip and Joslynn danced their first dance to Michael Bublé’s “You and I.” The danced floor opened to the crowd and the celebration continued. Country favorites like “Dixieland Delight” and “Dust on the Bottle” got the whole family singing. For the bouquet, Joslynn chose “This One’s For the Girls,” and tossed her bouquet into a crowd of waiting girls. Chip changed it up for the garter, and the crowd heard ZZ Top’s “Legs” during the garter removal. To get all his single friends on the floor for the toss, Motley Cruë beckoned with their classic, “Girls, Girls, Girls.”

The dancing continued into the night. On the second of three stops nationwide, the Englewood QuickBooks Online division of Intuit, Inc. gathered in a night of celebration to honor individual and team accomplishments.

At the stylish Inverness Hotel and Conference Center, QuickBooks Online mingled for drinks and cocktails in the Aspen Room.

Affinity for Music was so thrilled to provide a full color gobo of the company’s logo to enhance the room’s décor. A large table filled with employee prizes was concealed with blue and green, with the team’s logo in vibrant light on the wall above. Team members were honored for exceptional accomplishments and remarkable tenure. The room was filled with applause with every announced winner, and fellow employees cheered the outstanding endeavors that their teammates accomplished throughout the fiscal year.

Once the awards were presented, we kicked off the dancing and karaoke. Meat Loaf’s “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” was the first song to be selected out the karaoke songbook, and it set the mood for excitement for the entire night. The first brave lady to take the mic wasn’t solo for long, as she was joined by a Director who took the second mic to sing the energy-fueled duet to the end.

A slew of excellent singers took the mic. “Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy” was a hand-clapping crowd pleaser. A married couple did their best Sonny and Cher with “I Got You Babe.” And you could swear The Fabulous Thunderbirds were in the room when “Tough Enough” was sang by a gentleman who even had an awesome harmonizing background vocalist.

But that background vocalist took the lead when an electric group of ladies performed Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock N Roll.” Backed by a line of divas with karaoke props, the crowd chanted along with the awesome rendition of the 80’s classic. The whole room rocked.

Even the managers got involved in the singing. One team leader sang his heart out to Counting Crows’ “She Talks to Angels.” And when another manager broke into “Rapper’s Delight,” all the employees laughed and cheered. It wasn’t long before crowd favorite “Ice, Ice Baby” had everyone dancing!

The karaoke was intermingled with enthusiastic dancing. The music pumped while the crowd jumped in time. Everyone lined up for “The Cupid Shuffle,” with quite a few pros and a handful of others learning for the first time.

For one last song, the whole group gathered to sing Queen’s “We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions.” As a team, they made a circle and sang the song together. With arms linked or around shoulders, the circle of co-workers and friends swayed and sang to each other the anthem of team accomplishment. As the last notes rang out, the group cheered and hugged with the incredible enthusiasm of the moment.

Affinity for Music had a blast with the Intuit QuickBooks Online Live Tour. Dave and Courtney’s guests enjoyed the views from the clubhouse's large windows.

The ceremony began with a unique version of “Ave Maria” by the Budapest Strings, and a piece by the Academy of Saint Martin was used for the procession of the bridal party. Courtney’s father escorted her in to the O’Neill Brother’s version of Pachelbel’s “Canon in D,” and the hushed lighting of the chandeliers twinkled. Their ceremony was officiated by a close family friend, and the intimacy of the setting was accented by pillar candles.

As the couple was announced, Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” by the 101 Strings Orchestra rang through the high ceilings. Guests enjoyed cocktails at the bar as snappy tunes from favorites like Frank Sinatra and Etta James got toes tapping.

After guests were seated for dinner, the wedding party entered the room to “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas. Everyone in the room knew that the night was gonna be a good night, and the feeling was electric. When the couple entered the room to Tone Loc’s “Funky Cold Medina,” the whole crowd laughed and cheered at the play on words, as “Medina” was also a family name.

For the toasts, the best man had a bit of a surprise. Toward the end of his heartfelt toast, he made a call to the crowd. He asked that any ladies that might still have a key to the groom’s house, to please turn it in, as he was now a married man. Ladies of all ages from the audience suddenly rose and lined up to return their “key,” which was merely a blank that was handed to them by the best man during cocktail hour. As we played “Just a Gigolo,” the crowd whooped and laughed as a little grey-haired lady got in line, followed by a couple men!

As the couple made their way to the cake, everyone joined in to sing along to Dean Martin’s “That’s Amore.” All made their way over to the fireplace for dancing on into the night. Courtney and Dave chose “You and Me” by the Dave Matthew Band for their first dance.

When the wedding party came out to the dance floor, for “Single Ladies” by Beyoncé, most everyone knew a few moves of the dance and got the energy in the room really moving. Then everyone was invited to the dance floor and the floor was moving all night long. Custom selections like “O.M.G.” by Usher filled the dance floor. But the surprise requests for Latin music were what the crowd really wanted. Soon people were doing the salsa and merengue, while others were either trying to do it or watching the excitement of the dance floor.

Soon it was time for the bouquet and garter, and Dave took a really fun approach to his garter removal. “Eye of the Tiger” pumped up the crowd as Dave received a shoulder rub from his best man, who also provided him with a towel as if Dave were in the corner of a boxing ring. Then, we switched the song up to “Mission Impossible” for the garter removal. His single gentlemen gathered to the “Monday Night Football Theme” and Dave stepped back for a long pass.

The dance floor was filled again with electric celebration for the rest of the night. Dave and Courtney’s wedding was a beautiful celebration and Affinity for Music was so glad to be there for this fantastic couple!

Dazzling Denver Wedding

Affinity for Music was proud to be a part of Ryan and Amy's wedding at the fantastic Cable Center on the Denver University campus. Joined once again by our friends from Elevate Photography, the night was a stunning combination of sights and sounds.

The Cable Center's event area is the complex's two-story foyer. Floor to ceiling windows gave views of the city, and guests wandered around the upper level to enjoy cocktails. The room's giant television display showed an abstract image of the wedding colors, and uplights lined the room to accent the unique features of the architecture.

After the wedding party arrived and the couple was done with pictures, guests were directed down to the main level for dinner. But before the wedding party was announced, the guests received a special surprise announcement. Out on the landing for the staircase, facing the room from a mock pulpit, was friend of the family, Griff, all dressed up in a clerical robe, with a tall bishop's hat to match. After he hushed the chuckling crowd with a raise of his hand, he said the classic monologue from the film, "The Princess Bride." As he spoke the first word in perfect accent and intonation, "Mawwiage . . .," the crowd roared with laughter and the distinguished clergyman kept in perfect character to finish his speech.

As Griff quietly blessed the crowd and made his way from the spotlight, the first notes of "The Time" by The Black Eyed Peas began to play, and the crowd's applause turned into clapping to the beat of the music. As each of the seven couples in the wedding party were announced, they made their way down the stairs and did a little dance on the landing before ascending the rest of the way down to the dinner tables. The crowd's rhythmic clapping turned back into thunderous applause as the couple, Ryan and Amy, was announced into the room.

Bride and groom immediately made their way to the dance floor for their first dance. The song they chose was "Sea Breeze" by Tyrone Wells. After their dance, the bride's father thanked and welcomed the guests before leading everyone in prayer to bless the meal.

Prior to the reception, Elevate Photography contacted us to help facilitate a slide show of the ceremony that would be played for everyone at the reception. Using Ryan and Amy's custom selected music, we selected two songs to use as background music for the slide show. Toward the end of dinner, the slide show was ready. Working with the staff at The Cable Center to display the slide show on their giant display, Elevate Photography and Affinity for Music coordinated the perfect photo montage with the couple's favorite music. We had the best view in the house, watching everyone's faces as each new image revealed itself. It was evident that the happy mood of the celebration was swelling in everyone's hearts.

Toasts were given by the best man and maid of honor before the couple made their way to their wedding cookie, instead of a cake. Jack Johnson's "Better Together" played in the background as Ryan and Amy fed each other a bite from a cookie.

After the parents' dances, the crowd took to the dance floor and the energy was amazing. Every song was met with cheers, and at least three dancing circles broke out in the night. During "Thriller," guests young and old were doing Michael Jackson impressions, and when we played "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz, every single guest, young an old, was on the dance floor.

Amy tossed her bouquet to Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" from the landing of the stairs, giving the bouquet a little extra air time. When she made her way back to the dance floor for the garter removal, Ryan was ready with the sexy "Butterfly" by Jason Mraz playing in the background. But when he tossed the garter, the high-energy "Hero" by Skillet got all the gentlemen out to the dance floor hoping to make the catch.

The dancing went on into the night. The crowd went wild for all of Ryan and Amy's selections, especially "Let Me Clear My Throat" by DJ Kool and even "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus! The floor was packed all night long.

At the end of the night, we coordinated a grand exit for Ryan and Amy, complete with sparklers. After escorting the crowd outside, we handed out a sparkler to each guests and suddenly the outside of The Cable Center was ablaze with the light of a celebration. Affinity for Music was so thrilled to be a part of this sensational wedding in the city. Thank you Ryan and Amy!

Light Up the Night

In the high plains of Douglas County, just south of historic Daniels Park, the prestigious Sanctuary Golf Course sits in ultimate privacy with dazzling mountain views. As the family entered, a request from the mother of the bride, an instrumental version of "The Rose," hung in the air. For the entry of their wedding party of fifteen attendants, the couple chose "You've Got A Friend." Other fellow Sanctuary mainstays joined us, including Pastor Gene Selander, another fellow Sanctuary mainstay, who officiated, and Elevate Photography who also provided the images for this post. The warm summer breezes gently touched the trees to make their own music, and Jordan and Megan were met with applause and cheers upon their pronouncement, while UB40's "The Way You Do The Things You Do" took them back down the aisle.

Affinity for Music has launched a new lighting product. Custom lighted monograms are now a part of our lighting choices, and Jordan and Megan used this for their event décor. We designed an elegant stencil using the couple’s initials, and the dance floor was transformed. During cocktail hour, guests marveled at the design at their feet. Barry White's "You're The First, The Last, My Everything" rung through the high ceiling and the excited wedding party entered to see the design for the first time.

During dinner, it served as the perfect backdrop for flower girls that twirled to the dinner music. Jordan and Megan had a very unique choice for their cake cutting song, "Mellow Mood," by Bob Marley. The tropical groove brought up the already vibrant energy of the room, and guests were getting ready to dance.

The couple chose Lady Antebellum's "I Run To You" for their first dance, and after that the crowd was on the dance floor for the rest of the night. When the lights were lowered, the lighted monogram seemed to glow brighter, and it added a special energy to the dance floor. With the ability to spin, it transformed the room yet again when accompanied by a fast song and a crowd of dancing people.

The dance floor was packed all night long, and the party rocked. Per the request of the bride and groom, there would be no more slow songs that evening, until the last dance. For their final song of the evening, the couple chose Air Supply's "All Out Of Love." A special selection by the groom Jordan, the song had everyone in the room singing out loud, raising glasses in the air.

For the grand exit, guests gathered in The Sanctuary's portico and we passed out the sparklers. An evening filled with good times and great dancing, and a memorable time was had by all.

After the ceremony at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Castle Rock, guests gathered on The Sanctuary's scenic patio for cocktail hour. Crooners such as Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin inter-weaved with the likes of Dave Matthews and Michael Bublé. As the sun lowered in the distance, the Rocky Mountains were touched with the color, and guests tapped their toes to the cocktail tunes.

The wedding party was welcomed into the room to Chris Brown's "Forever" with roaring applause. After groom Bob thanked his guests, his grandparents led the crowd in prayer to bless the meal. For dinner music, standards by Louis Armstrong and the Rat Pack mingled with the couple's custom country selections. As George Strait sang about the blue Colorado sky, guests gazed at The Sanctuary's stunning panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains. Josh Turner and Chris Ledoux got the crowd's toes tapping, and for their cake cutting, "Love You're Love The Most" by Eric Church.

Bob and Diana came to the dance floor for their first dance, "It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The bride and her father shared the floor for Heartland's "I Loved Her First," after which the groom danced with his mother to Frankie Valli's rendition of "What a Wonderful World."

The crowd hit the dance floor with all the joy and celebration of the day. They sang along and danced to The Beatles, AC/DC, and even Lady Gaga! After the couple kicked off their honeymoon fund with a money dance, a special dedication was requested for the bride's brother. As the guests had learned in the toasts earlier in the evening, The Spice Girls' "Wannabe" was a favorite in earlier years, and everyone joined the bride and her brother on the dance floor to dance and share in the joke.

Country music and disco kept the dance floor hopping all night long. Hits from the 80's had everyone singing, and line dances like the Electric Slide and Cotton Eyed Joe had everyone moving in unison. When the first few notes of "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey carried out of the speakers, the entire room cheered, and the bride and groom were surrounded by their family and friends on the dance floor.

The couple shared a final slow dance to George Strait's "I Cross My Heart." After this, we helped facilitate their grand exit outside and passed out sparklers. As "Time of Your Life" by Green Day rang through The Sanctuary's grand foyer, the bride and groom made their way out the doors and through an aisle of sparkling fireworks, lighting up all the faces of their cheering loved ones. After the couple had gone, Affinity for Music kept the remaining guests dancing the night away.

As a long time recommended vendor at The Sanctuary, Affinity for Music was so happy to be a part of this marvelous celebration. A place of gathering for hundreds of years, it served as the setting for Chuck and Cathy’s wedding, and their guests were enchanted. Affinity for Music was a part of both the ceremony and reception for this amazing couple.

Chuck and Cathy’s wedding ceremony took place in the back yard of the Red Rocks Trading Post. Recently renovated and beautifully landscaped, the back yard overlooks a valley. The massive log deck over the back patio gave the photographer a great vantage point to overlook the ceremony, while also providing the guests with shelter from the sprinkles that fell before the ceremony began. But when the pre-ceremony music began with an acoustic version of “Swing Life Away” by Rise Against, the skies cleared and the sun welcomed the guests into their soon dry seats.

A sweeping staircase from the log deck served as the beginning of the aisle for beautiful bride Cathy as an instrumental version of “Bless the Broken Road” played. When she reached the bottom, she was joined by her groom Chuck and they walked together down the aisle between their guests. Jack Johnson’s “Better Together” served as the background music for their unity candle, and not a drop of rain fell during the entire ceremony.

When they were pronounced husband and wife, the crowd cheered. Cheering turned into clapping and dancing as the couple made their way back up the aisle to Chris Brown’s “Forever.” Everyone made their way to the Red Rocks Visitors’ Center for the remainder of the evening.

During cocktail hour, Chuck and Cathy’s guests were free to enjoy cocktails in the Ship Rock Grille while also enjoying access to the music museum. Affinity for Music was able to play the couple’s custom cocktail music over the facility’s house system, so their music could be heard wherever their guests mingled. Tunes from the Indigo Girls, Jason Mraz and John Denver fit right in with the Red Rocks atmosphere.

After guests made their way into the Rock Room for dinner, the Bellamy Brothers “Let Your Love Flow” filled the room and got everyone clapping. Chuck and Cathy made their entrance to thunderous applause, and went straight to the dance floor for their first dance, “Ticks” by Brad Paisley. They two-stepped around the floor like pros, and their guests were amazed. Afterwards when Chuck took the microphone to welcome his guests, he said, “Boy, that was hard, I’m glad that’s over!” The crowd roared with laughter.

After the toasts, Chuck and Cathy shared a dance with their parents to “I Hope You Dance” by Leann Womack. This opened up the dancing for everyone, and the crowd had a lot of fun. The couple dedicated Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” to all the parents and grandparents. The couple cut their cake a bit later in the evening, and they surprised the crowd by choosing the theme from “Jaws” when feeding each other, and not making a mess.

Chuck and Cathy chose to end their evening with the same song that started their ceremony. The studio version of “Swing Life Away” by Rise Against brought everyone to the dance floor one final time. Though the rain had come again when everyone was safe inside, no one’s spirits were dampened on this happy day. Thank you Cathy and Chuck for letting Affinity for Music be a part of your wedding day!

Beautiful Day, Beautiful Bride, Beautiful Celebration

The weather was perfect for Bethany and Luke’s wedding day. Affinity for Music was there for both the ceremony and reception, which took place at Raccoon Creek Golf Course in Littleton.

Under the late afternoon sun, the ceremony was on the facility’s newly redesigned wedding ceremony site. Bright flowers in long flower beds graced both sides of the wedding party, and large trees provided ample shade for everyone. As the guests and family were seated, Christian music by Fernando Ortega floated through the air. Bethany was escorted down the aisle by her father, while the Boston Pop Orchestra’s version of “Canon in D” played.

During the ceremony, the couple incorporated live music with a friend who sang while playing acoustic guitar. Affinity for Music provided the microphones and amplification for the soloist, and the songs of praise could be heard by all. To end the ceremony, Jack Johnson’s “Better Together” brought the bride and groom to their recession, and the crowd was truly joyous.

As the couple explored the golf course with their photographer for sunset shots, guests enjoyed cocktails in the fresh outdoors while a slide show of Bethany and Luke looped on a large screen. Dinner time approached, and we lined up the entire wedding party so we could welcome the newlyweds into their reception. “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas brought up the crowd’s energy, and they welcomed in the happy couple.

Luke and Bethany hand-picked some custom selections for their dinner music. Contemporary Christian music mingled with contemporary rock, and artists like Matt Wertz, The Fray, and Casting Crowns delighted guests as their dined in on the patio. For the toasts, Bethany’s father kicked off the toasts, giving both a welcome to the guests and a congratulatory salute to the couple. After the best man and maid of honor spoke, Luke and Bethany took to the microphone to give a heart-felt thank you to the crowd, and the happy couple then toasted their friends and family.

After the couple shared their first dance to Martina McBride’s “I Just Call You Mine,” Bethany shared her dance with her father. The dance was coordinated to “Cinderella” by Stephen Curtis Chapman. When the lyrics sang, “I will dance with Cinderella . . . Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight,” her father spun the beautiful bride into the waiting arms of the groom at the other side of the dance floor, and the loving father joined the crowd in another applause for the happy couple.

“Forever” by Chris Brown kicked off the dancing and the energy was high for the rest of the night. Hits from the Motown era, 80’s tunes, and even recent dance hits got this crowd moving. For their last dance, the couple chose “God Gave Me You” by Dave Barnes. When their limo arrived, we gathered the crowd and passed out bubbles, and had them form two lines to see the couple off. A cloud of bubbles rose into the night sky, as Luke and Bethany rode off in style. Affinity for Music was so glad to be a part of this day!

The Night Sizzles in Castle Pines

Dave and Christina's wedding was at Cielo in Castle Pines. The officiant shared the news that he also officiated the bride's parents' wedding ceremony years ago, and guests were moved with the joy and emotion of the day.

Instead of a unity candle, Dave and Christina did a sand ceremony, a wise choice in the outdoors, with "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe in the background. A reading from a long-time family friend once again tugged at the guests' heartstrings.

But as Dave and Christina were announced as husband and wife, the crowd rose in applause and celebration. "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas filled the courtyard, and the celebration was just beginning.

For cocktail hour, guests were free to mingle both indoors and outdoors while standards from artists like Ella Fitzgerald and contemporary hits from the likes of Matt Nathanson sizzled in the background. Guests were invited in for dinner, and darkness began to fall outside.

Affinity for Music always works in a team of two. When a situation arose at this wedding, the male-female DJ team was key. With experience at literally hundreds of weddings over the last nine years, Melissa has seen every kind of wedding dress bustle there is. So when the bridal party was at a loss at how to decipher the delicate puzzle, Melissa hustled up the grand staircase and bustled Christina's dress. Guests were unaware of the entire thing, as Mark was able to control the music, preparing the guests for the wedding party introduction.

It was during dinner when Dave and Christina snuck back outside with their photographer to capture a moment in front of the fire. Photo courtesy Allée Photography.

Affinity for Music has the ability to edit song selections so they can better fit in the flow of the evening. In the case of the couple's first dance, Michael Bublé's "Everything," felt a little long for Dave and Christina when they practiced at home. We edited the song down to a comfortable 2:30, and the couple felt much more at ease for their spotlight dance. Then, there was not a dry eye in the room for Christina and her father as they danced to Tim McGraw's "My Little Girl," and the energy in the room went up another notch.

The high ceilings of the main hall filled with a mix of new hits and crowd-pleasing classics. "ABC" by the Jackson 5 led into "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz. Stand-out selections like Run-DMC's "It's Tricky" fit right in with Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'."

The surprise of the night was "Rain is a Good Thing" by Luke Bryan. A hit at the bachelorette party just a few days before, Christina had no idea she and her girls would want it at the wedding, until that moment on the dance floor. But thanks to wireless technology, Affinity for Music was able to get the song within minutes, and the ladies were ecstatic.

As the crowd made their way toward the doors for the grand exit, "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by the Verve hung in the air. Making their way through a sea of bubbles, Dave and Christina left their wedding reception surrounded by friends and family. Affinity for Music was so glad to be a part of this celebration.

Exciting Event at Victoria's Secret

Everyone recognizes the name Victoria's Secret. Built in 1884 as the president of the university's house, the building is one of the oldest on campus. Affinity for Music has performed here a number of times, but for Matt and Leslie's wedding, we found beautiful renovations to the outside, including an expanded back porch, brick terrace, and lighted gazebo.

In 2007, we were the DJ for Leslie's brother's wedding at the University Club in Denver. It was at Seth and Lauren's wedding that we met and first worked with Jessica Green of Green Eyed Design. We've been friends and colleagues with Jessica ever since, and we were so excited to work together again for Matt and Leslie.

As guests mingled in the back yard amidst tiki torches, classics by artists like Ella Fitzgerald mixed with contemporaries like Ray LaMontagne. But there was a buzz in the air, a certain energy that could already be felt. And as guests stopped by the DJ booth, they gave a happy warning of the raging party that was just getting started.

The wedding party introduction was unique in that it included every member of the wedding party, including two ushers, three flower girls, a ring bearer, and 19 bridesmaids and groomsmen. "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang had the whole crowd clapping and cheering for everyone, with a climatic applause for the bride and groom.

Throughout dinner, the gazebo served as the seating area for the head tables, a focal point decorated with white twinkle lights and tulle to accent the rafters above. Guests could enjoy a stroll through the lawn under the age-old trees after enjoying their meal, then explore the chocolate fountain for a special treat.

The toasts included the Best Man, Maid of Honor, plus all three of Leslie's older brothers. Affinity for Music was able to digitally capture all the toasts for Matt and Leslie's wedding CD. Again, during the toasts, most had a hint, a reference of the excitement for the dancing that was yet to come. Some guests were college friends from Boulder, others were college friends from Ohio. Another large part was family, then more were longtime friends. The group was large, and they needed a big dance floor.

The dancing at Matt and Leslie's wedding went on for almost four hours. The gazebo was packed with dancing and celebrating for the remainder of the night. Those from Ohio went crazy when we played "Hang On Sloopy," as it's one of their college anthems. Everyone spelled out "O-H-I-O" with their arms in unison, no need for YMCA at this party. The music ranged all the decades, and the gazebo floor shook with "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," "Footloose," and "Dynamite." But the surprise hit of the evening that had to be played twice by request of the groom: "Ice Cream Paint Job."

After seven hours, Matt and Leslie's reception had come to an end. Some kept the party going in Boulder on Pearl Street, while others called for a taxi and called it a night. Affinity for Music had a blast, thank you Matt and Leslie!

A Magical Experience at The Wildlife Experience

The Wildlife Experience was the perfect venue for Matthew and Kimberly. Taking advantage of everything Affinity for Music and the diverse facility had to offer, the couple planned an epic evening.

Matthew and Kimberly’s wedding ceremony was in the outside courtyard of The Wildlife Experience. The soft sounds of the rock waterfall in the background intermingled with the theme song from “Pride and Prejudice” as bride Kimberly made her way down the aisle. And with “Ave Maria” playing softly in the background, the couple lit their unity candle, a perfect transition in the reading that was to follow.

But the most surprising part of the ceremony was the recessional. As their officiant announced them for the very first time, Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” broke the calm, and the couple made a grand exit with their whole wedding party rockin’ right behind them.

Cocktail hour brought the guests to an entirely different part of the outside of the facility, with ample shade and refreshing breezes to enjoy the summer day. Cocktail music was especially unique, spanning five decades of music, along with selections from the first season of Glee. Bruno Mars, Falco, and James Taylor all made appearances as guests enjoyed the pre-dinner libations.

When guests made their way into the Great Hall, Matthew and Kimberly underwent a wardrobe enhancement. Matthew’s white tuxedo was complemented by a white top hat and cane. Kimberly’s bridal ensemble was accentuated by a large feather in her hair. “The Final Countdown” by Europe began to echo through the Great Hall as the wedding party was announced.

Putting their own spin on the wedding party introduction, Matthew and Kimberly came up with a unique introduction for each wedding party member, including themselves. Introduced as “The Dashing Dentist,” “The Courteous Cook,” and “The Naughty But Nice Nurse,” each bridesmaid and groomsman entered the room to thunderous applause. But the applause was never greater than when Affinity for Music introduced, “the enchanting, riveting, and always glorious Matthew and Kimberly!”

For their first dance, Matthew and Kimberly chose Lady Antebellum’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” This was followed by “Unforgettable,” by Nat ‘King’ Cole and Natalie Cole, to which Kimberly danced with her father. Matthew then danced with his mother to Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” But when the parents’ dances were through, the crowd rushed to the dance floor for the couple’s selection, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

When you host your event at The Wildlife Experience, not only do you have the entire facility to yourself, but your guests have access to view the museum for the duration of the event. Matthew and Kimberly’s guests could enjoy the world class wildlife exhibits at their leisure, dance in the Great Hall, or, toward the end of the evening, partake in the cigar lounge.

In the cooler evening breeze after the sun had set, Matthew and Kimberly’s guests could venture outside to enjoy yet another diversion, cigars and scotch. Crooners like Sinatra and Martin could be enjoyed outside, while the party still raged on inside with AC/DC and Jay-Z.

All the guests reconvened in the Great Hall for the last few dances. Everyone sang along to Journey’s “Faithfully,” voices could be heard singing all through the high ceilings of the Wildlife Experience, and all would admit the day was a magical experience. With Affinity For Music’s help, Matthew and Kimberly pulled off both an elegant and fun day that will forever be remembered.

Quintessential Colorado Wedding

High in the Rocky Mountains, Braden and Luana brought their families together for a beautiful celebration. Affinity for Music felt so privileged to be a part of this intimate gathering that brought two such amazing people together.

Affinity for Music was the DJ for the best man and matron of honor in 2004. What a treat to see Benton and Stacey and their whole family again!

World travelers Luana and Braden met in London. Luana is from Brazil and Braden is from Colorado. Needless to say, they wanted to make sure their diverse appreciation for music was represented at their wedding.

In the summer, the bare slopes of Winter Park offer spectacular views of trees that go for miles. At the Lodge at Sunspot, guests take a chair lift up the mountain to reach the wedding ceremony and reception. As Pachelbel’s Canon in D floated above the trees, the bride Luana came up the chair lift and walked down the aisle.

For cocktail hour, guests enjoyed a mix of bossa nova and contemporary rock with a mountain feel. Blues Traveler and Dave Matthews Band intermingled with Joao Gilberto and Tom Jobim as family and friends took in the mountain vistas.

As the group migrated inside for dinner, a magnificent mountain sunset could still be enjoyed from the large windows during dinner. Braden and Luana’s grand entrance was orchestrated to “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay, and everyone in the room stood to welcome the adventuresome duo.

Best man and brother Benton gave the speech. We were able to capture his kind words and include it on Braden and Luana’s wedding CD. Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight” brought the couple to the floor for their first dance, and the party changed gears.

One of the biggest dance songs of 2010 was The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” It got Braden and Luana’s guests on the dance floor and the party never stopped. International artists like Sérgio Mendes fit right in with eclectic remakes like “Dancing With Myself” by Nouvelle Vague.

We passed out bubbles to the guests and the couple descended back down the chair lift under the starry Rocky Mountain sky, the perfect ending to the quintessential Colorado wedding.

A Celebration in the City

Matt and Melissa were married in the Sopris Gardens at Denver City Park, with the reception following in the Park's Pavilion. Affinity for Music was part of the team that Matt and Melissa assembled to make their day into a whimsical party in the city.

The beautifully manicured Sopris Gardens make a lovely setting for a wedding ceremony. With an acoustic guitarist also providing vocals and accompanied by a violinist, guests enjoyed pre-ceremony music tunes like "Georgia On My Mind," "What A Wonderful World," and "Stand By Me." A cousin officiated the ceremony, and one of the bridesmaids did a reading. With the classic "Ooh La La," the instrumentalists brought the ceremony to its recession, and guests were tapping their toes.

Cocktail hour brought more unique surprises to Matt and Melissa's guests, as they took full advantage of what their setting had to offer. Rented paddle boats and surreys were available to take in the sights of Ferril Lake, and croquet was available on the lawn. For cocktail music, they chose a mix of standards, contemporary rock, and 80's music, giving a hint to their guests of what was to come.

The wedding party exploded into the room with Billy Idol's "White Wedding," and the crowd went wild. With emotions already high, it was hard to find a dry eye in the room as Matt and Melissa went to the center of the room for their first dance. Melissa's cousin sang The Pretenders' "I'll Stand By You," and Affinity for Music was able to record the live performance and include it on Matt and Melissa's wedding CD.

The frequency of 80's tunes increased throughout dinner, creating the perfect segue into the couple's cake cutting with none other than "Pour Some Sugar On Me," by Def Leppard. As the party transitioned from one side of the pavilion to the other, the bride and groom led a conga line and all the guests chanted along, "Hot, Hot, Hot!"

Every family member from both Matt and Melissa's side were on the dance floor to "We Are Family," and with the 80's music flowing, Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" was a must play. But the surprise hit of the night was Matt's surprise dedication to Melissa, "Just Like Paradise," by David Lee Roth. What a happy couple!

The night wound down with Howie Day's "Collide." And as the colors in the fountain in Ferril Lake changed colors, Matt and Melissa's guests celebrated into the night.

Shaking it Up in Parker

Affinity for Music provided entertainment for Toby and Taylor's wedding reception in Parker, Colorado. The couple truly let their own colors show throughout their ceremony and reception with plenty of unique music to keep their guests entertained.

A school teacher from Highlands Ranch, Emily utilized her close friends and family to bring this special music to her day. For the ceremony, a group of former students perfomed on classical instruments. For the wedding party processional, they composed their own rendition of Jay-Z's "Young Forever" featuring Mr. Hudson. And for the procession of the bride, the ensemble orchestrated their own version of Tom Petty's "Wildflowers."

As the reception began, the wedding party had a coordinated entrance to "The Final Countdown" by Europe. This kicked the energy up and got all the guests excited. The couple kept the high energy going with a surprisingly upbeat selection for their first dance, Reckless Kelly's "A Guy Like Me."

But the highlight of the evening was yet to come. Weeks before the reception, Emily informed us that we would be hearing from her friend Wolfgang from Germany. He was going to be attending the wedding with a few other German friends, and they wanted to share some traditional German music with everyone. Wolfgang was able to get the music to us before the reception, and we worked together to make sure all went according to plan.

After the open dancing had been going for a while, Wolfgang and his friends snuck off to change out of their American suits and into traditional German lederhosen. When the music stopped and the crowd first saw the group of performers, half the crowd was already roaring in appreciation as if they knew what was to come. The music, at first traditional German folk music, got the whole crowd clapping as the young men slapped their ankles, knees, thighs, chests, and jumped all in unison. What coordination! But as the music changed over to a fast-paced polka, the performers grabbed members of the audience to join in, and the Garden Canopy shook.

At the end of the reception, Aaron and Emily kept the party going on their party bus. As they made it to their next destination, Rusted Root's "Send Me On My Way" kept the energy going for the guests as they all got on board. Affinity for Music was so thrilled to be a part of this exciting evening!

Making a Magical Evening

Hidden in the hills, a bagpiper stands playing Amazing Grace letting the sound carry up to Kathryn and Brent's guests, a subtle way of inviting them to dinner. It was personal touches like these that made this ceremony and reception at the Sanctuary Golf Course extra special.

After live performances from the bagpiper and ceremony instrumentalists, Brent and Kathryn turned the tables by entering the room to Barry White's "You're the First, My Last, My Everything." With other personal song selections throughout dinner, the guests were enjoying the music as much as the food.

The newlyweds did full justice to Michael Buble's "Everything," a song that thrives on choreography. Once the formalities are done and the party gets going, Karaoke is a great way to get your guests involved, especially if you have singers in the group.

Thomas, the groom, was raised in a musical family. When he sang Incubus' "Drive," then entire crowd got into it, and this broke the ice for other family and friends to sing. Highlights of the evening included the groom's parents singing "I Got You Babe," doing full justice to Sonny and Cher.

We all know the scene from Top Gun, a serenade of The Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" is enough to melt any girl's heart. But for Julie, all her singers were not only in tune, but they were able to make it through the entire first verse without having to read the lyrics off the screen! The groomsmen also serenaded the couple in a special dedication, and as with almost every song, the whole crowd was singing along.

The singing co-mingled with dancing into the night, and there was never a dull moment. When there's a polka band in the family, you know it's going to be a fun night. Being from Chicago, the couple wanted to be introduced "Chicago Bulls Style." We introduced the bridesmaids and groomsmen over the song "On the Run" by Pink Floyd, and the newlyweds were introduced over "Sirius" by the Alan Parsons Project. It was a high-energy sports-themed introduction that really got the crowd going.

Paul and Jennifer choice for first dance was "Here, There, and Everywhere" by the Beatles. Surprisingly, this was the first time we had a couple choose this song for their first dance, and it's an excellent selection.

Later in the evening, the dancing was a great mix of music for the whole crowd. The mother of the bride's cousin is Al of Al Holman and the Polkatunes, and we played his songs when there was a polka requested. With plenty of selections from disco to hip-hop, the floor was packed all night long. And with the last-minute change making "American Pie" the final song of the evening, the entire crowd was singing along!

Paul and Jennifer sent us this picture from the end of their reception. In May, the Rocky's Auto girl was an Affinity For Music bride.

Audra and Chuck were married at the Sanctuary Golf Course with the reception immediately following. Having written their own vows for not only each other but also their children, there was not a dry eye in the pavilion as everyone watched the two families become one. With the groom's father as the officiant, this was one of the more touching ceremonies we helped take part in.

Later at the reception, the Shagman himself kicked off the toasts, followed by the police officer. It was great to see this side of this trio of actors. Chuck and Audra's toasts even included individual toasts by the children, which got the crowd roaring. We digitally captured these moments for them and included all of their toasts on their wedding CD.

Affinity For Music kept the dance floor packed with Chuck and Audra's fun and eclectic music. This past wedding season, a couple new songs emerged that we would like to share.

For their Father/Daughter song, Tim and Katie chose "My Little Girl" by Steve Kirwan. This song worked wonderfully and the lyrics matched the occasion perfectly.

Click here to preview these songs on our Weddings Page.

Ali and Erik chose "A Mother's Song" by T. Most people only do it once, and most want it to be all they imagine it to be. In a word . . . perfect. Whether you’re recently engaged or just weeks away from your big day, here are a few pointers that can help make your wedding day everything you want it to be.

Tip 1: Keep the action in the room.

There are a couple of things that can pull you and a large group of your guests out of the room, which can totally ruin the flow of the evening. First, keep your bar in the same room as your dinner and dancing. When guests have to leave the room to get a drink, they also tend to congregate around the bar. As those guests continue to socialize outside of the room, they miss important announcements like, “it’s time for the bouquet toss,” and you’ll wonder where all your single ladies are when it’s time to toss it. Second, if you want to show a slide show or video, keep it in the room as well. If guests have to leave and go to another room to see it, you’ll find that your crowd is depleted by almost half when it’s over. Finally, try to keep yourselves in the room. If your guests see you in the room enjoying the evening, they will follow suit. Likewise, if you’re not around your guests will leave.

Tip 2: Talk to your toasters ahead of time.

Surprisingly, it’s quite common that the best man or maid of honor have no clue that they are expected to give a toast. Speaking in front of people is a common fear, and being blind-sided with the duty can lead to a very uncomfortable speech. Ask everyone in your wedding party and your parents ahead of time if they would like to give a toast on your wedding day. The best toasts are those that are prepared. Everyone in the room will be more comfortable if the toaster is prepared.

Tip 3: Receiving lines are a thing of the past.

In years past, newly married couples used receiving lines as a way to welcome each and every guest. As they gave each individual guest face time, all other guests either waited in a long line with no drink and no hors d’oeuvres, or they waited inside the room for an unforeseen amount of time waiting for the party to start. Surprisingly, the average receiving line takes a full hour of reception time. Today, it has become much more acceptable to greet guests in a much more efficient manner. As the newlyweds and guests of honor, you will be fed your meal first. All other guests will be served their food after you, usually starting with wedding party and family. By the time you enjoy your meal, the catering staff will most likely still be serving the rest of your guests, giving you time to visit them one table at a time. This also makes for great photo opportunities, allowing your photographer to take pictures of you mingling with the individual groups of guests, rather than just a line of people.

Affinity For Music Launches New Website

Originally posted June 18th, 2009

Welcome everybody! We are happy to launch our newly redesigned website. After being in business as Affinity For Music since 2002, we knew it was time to give our existing website a major facelift. While we wanted to retain our easy to navigate site, we wanted a more modern website that truly reflected what Affinity For Music is all about.

Quite simply, Affinity For Music is a unique DJ company that offers a different service and features unlike any other Mobile DJ. Our DJ/MC team of two and other unique features allow us to make a wedding a resounding success.

While we wanted to retain some of our most popular features that we’ve always offered our clients, we wanted to expand our website features to offer our couples even more features.

We retained the popular Online Music Database which offers Must Play, Play if Possible, and the all-important Do Not Play list options. Clients can listen to song sample via iTunes, view song lyrics, add notes to songs, or make custom song requests.

The online Ceremony Planner, Reception Planner, and Event Timelines are just some of the features included. Our Guest Request feature is another way to involve your guests.

It was also time to change our logo. We’re really excited about the new design. We hope you like it, too.

We included examples of our unique Recorded Toasts and Custom Voice Dedications feature on our Weddings page. Click play to hear some wonderful memories we were able to capture from our past weddings. Take a listen!

Besides our blog, we added a few other new features like our new Wedding Store where you can shop online for unique wedding ideas.

We plan to update our blog with tips, ideas and success stories from our events that we can share with you. Having over 16 years experience DJ’ing weddings, our passion is to make your day truly unforgettable.

We hope you enjoy our new website!

Tom and Melissa
